First generation which was short fibers with no fill. second generation which used sand infills and now third generation which uses a mixture of sand and granules of recycled rubber fills. First used in the baseball by the Houston Astrodome it replaced the grass field when the stadium was opened. The reason as there was not enough sunlight to keep the grass healthy.
